Lola Dean Davis Honeycutt, of Helenwood, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center in Oneida. She was 83.

LIFE

Born Jan. 10, 1943, Lola was the daughter of the late Dawsie Davis and Rose Chitwood Davis. She was a lifetime member of Tunnel Hill Baptist Church, where she served for many years in many capacities until 2011. She later attended Black Oak Baptist Church in Oneida and was very happy there. Dean was known for her good cooking, especially her chicken and dumplings and homemade biscuits. She loved to sew and quilt.

Born Jan. 19, 1945, Jimmy was the son of the late Marion and Lucille Lloyd. He was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Gerald Pike, of Oneida, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026, at his home. He was 79.

LIFE

Born Dec. 2, 1946, Gerald graduated from Tennessee Tech and began a career in banking with First Trust & Savings Bank in 1972, continuing until 2009. He later worked with Peoples Bank of the South until he retired to his small farm, where he enjoyed being on his tractor. He was a longtime believer in his community and supported local businesses. He was saved on May 11, 2024.

Born July 17, 1956, Phyllis was the daughter of the late James Milford “Mip” Stanfill and Mary Helen Howard Stanfill. She is described by many as the sweetest person they know and was lovingly nicknamed “Precious” by her nieces and nephews. She loved yard sales, fishing, her windchimes, and her extended auction-house family.

Freela “Faye” Stephens Strunk, of Winfield, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, March 23, 2026. She was 76.

LIFE

Born Oct. 3, 1949, Faye was the daughter of the late Edward William and Dorothy Alene Daugherty Stephens. Faye was devoted to her forever love, Jim, for nearly 58 years, and their five children. She was a God-fearing prayer warrior and loved serving God beside her husband and family. Her heart was full of love for all her family. She had the most loving, tender heart you could find. She enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family. Our lives have been richly blessed to have had her.

Wendell Earl Anderson, formerly of Oneida, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 93.

LIFE
Born Aug. 6, 1932, Wendell was the son of Earl Sheridan and Golda LeValley Anderson. He graduated from Xenia Central High School in 1950. He earned a BS degree in animal science from Ohio State University in 1954, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He was a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a State Farm Insurance agent for more than 34 years and was a true example of the “like a good neighbor” advertisement. He was always active in youth and livestock organizations. He served as a 4-H advisor, president of the Green County Beef Association, president of the Eastern Limousin Breeders Association, director of the Ohio Limousin Association and president of the Old Timers Club. He enjoyed raising Limousin beef cattle, collecting Minneapolis Moline tractors and toys, and cheering for his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes. He was always active in his church. He served as a deacon for many years at East Dayton Baptist Church. After moving to Oneida, he became active at First Baptist Church and cherished the fellowship he found there.

LIFE
Born Oct. 20, 1950, Mary was the daughter of the late Cecil E. Butler and Helen Goodnight. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, making cards, and loved gardening. She was also a part of the singing group the Travelers that went to nursing homes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Huntsville and delighted in singing in the choir. She was also instrumental in helping to install the blessing box that included clothing, food items and personal items at First Baptist Church of Huntsville. She had a servant’s heart and loved the Lord and always thinking of others. She and her husband took many mission trips together to several countries. Doug and Mary loved to travel and visited at least 30 states together. She was a wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister and friend.

Nina Butler, 57

February 19, 1969 – March 6, 2026

Nina Michelle Davis Butler passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 57.

LIFE

Born Feb. 19, 1969, Nina was the daughter of Rodney Davis and Pam Davis. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend whose life was marked by faith, love, and service to others. She was the devoted wife of Jay Butler for 35 years, and together they built a family rooted in the love of Jesus. She was a devoted mother to Emalee, Ethan, and Erin and a proud grandmother to Elowyn Maeve Arroyo and Bennett Davis Butler. Nina and Jay’s journey together began at Oneida High School as they started their senior year in 1986. They married on June 1, 1991, and her gentle strength and steadfast partnership enriched every chapter of their lives together. Her nurturing heart guided their children through life’s joys and challenges, always encouraging them with compassion and an open ear. To her family, she was the heart of their home, and her presence was a constant source of comfort and joy. For 16 years, Nina taught first grade at Oak Mountain Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama. Her classroom was a place where children felt seen, heard, and celebrated. Students flourished under her patient guidance and creativity, and colleagues remember her as a mentor and friend who taught not only academics but also kindness, perseverance, and joy. For more than 20 years, Nina and her husband served together at Hunter Street Baptist Church, where they cared for three-year-old children on Sunday mornings. Through their gentle guidance and joyful presence, they helped nurture the youngest hearts, sharing their faith and love with each child they encountered. Her compassion and generosity also defined her friendships, and she was known for offering encouragement, wisdom, and comfort to those around her.

LIFE

Born Aug. 27, 1968, Ronald was the son of the late Franklin Denver Troxtell and Vivian Honeycutt Troxtell. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Autumn, and a proud and loving father to his two children, Jaylynn and Kaden, who were the center of his world. Ronald will be remembered for his love for his family, his steady presence, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled, but his spirit will continue to live on through the lives he touched.

Larry West, 79

Huntsville
January 19, 1947 – March 8, 2026

Larry Richard West, of Huntsville, transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 8, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 79.

LIFE

Born Jan. 19, 1947, Larry was the son of the late Harold and Ida Bell Coffey West. Larry was a longtime teacher and businessman. Following college graduation, he taught in the Scott County School System and at the Tennessee Technology Center. He later established Scott Appalachian Industries in 1984, serving as executive director until his retirement. He also founded Housing Opportunities and People Enterprises (HOPE) in 1997, developed an alternative-fuel station using compressed natural gas, and helped youth develop athletic skills by coaching his children’s youth teams. He helped start the Scott County Junior Pro leagues and coached several Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) teams. Most recently, he was awarded “Person of the Year” by the Independent Herald and the Scott County Chamber of Commerce. He served on many state and special-interest committees to improve both local and special-interest policies. His desire was always to improve the lives of citizens in the community and to make things better for all. He was a member of White Rock Baptist Church, where he served in many roles. He was a Christian man who loved the Lord and Savior and strove to live his life in a manner pleasing to God, according to His word, as the provider, protector, and spiritual leader of his home. His favorite Bible verse was 2 Corinthians 3:17: “… where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

Glenn “Doc” Shepard departed this life on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026. He was 79.

LIFE

Born Dec. 2, 1946, Glenn was the son of the late Ronald Glenn Shepard Sr. and Ester Foster Shepard. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and friend whose life was defined by faith, hard work, and family. He lived his life with quiet strength, humility, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He was a member of Slick Rock Missionary Baptist Church. In 1976, he purchased his first Ford FL 9000 coal truck and founded Shepard Trucking. Through determination and grit, he built a livelihood rooted in honest work. When the coal industry declined, he adapted, transitioning to over-the-road truck driving — a testament to his resilience and strong work ethic. In 2001, Glenn began sharing his knowledge, skills, and steady presence with Shepard Trucking LLC, owned by his son, Derek. From that moment on, he became the backbone of the company. Glenn worked faithfully alongside his son until his final days, doing what he loved and being exactly where he wanted to be. Above all, Glenn cherished his family. He was a constant source of support, wisdom, and love, leaving a legacy that will continue through generations. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, those who knew and loved him take comfort in God’s promise and the assurance that Glenn is now with Jesus.

Charlie Monroe Griffith was promoted to his Heavenly home on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026, at North Knoxville Medical Center in Powell, Tenn., with his loving family by his side. He was 78.

LIFE

Born Aug. 31, 1947, Charlie was the son of Everett and Mary Taylor Griffith. He was a simple, hard-working man who loved to make people smile by giving them something handmade from his woodshop. To know him was to love him. He was a gentle giant who treated everyone he met with kindness and Godly love. He was a loving father, papaw, brother, uncle, and friend, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. They were the center of his world. Charlie loved the Lord. Of all his many titles, Child of God was his favorite. He was always ready to talk about the Lord to anyone who would listen. He was ordained as a deacon in January 1976 at Lone Mountain Missionary Baptist Church and was a member at Slick Rock Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He loved his church and church family. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam.

Born March 21, 1974, Vanita was the daughter of Geraldine Walker and the late Melvin Cromwell. She had such a generous spirit and loved Jesus above all. She loved her family and will be dearly missed but will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, mimi, sister, and aunt.

Charles Condie, 82

Oneida

January 20, 1944 – February 11, 2026

Charles A. “Chuck” Condie, of Oneida, formerly of Sewickley, Pa., and Aliquippa, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, at his home after a brief illness. He was 82. He was a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great grandfather who will be greatly missed by his beloved family.

LIFE

Born Jan. 20, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Charlie was the son of William and Catherine Condie. Before moving to Oneida in 2008, he worked in broadcasting in the Pittsburgh area for 43 years. He retired from WPXI-TV after 38 years. He graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1962 and Electronic Institute in 1963. He held a radio telephone first class license with radar endorsement. Charlie was a member of the Doric Masonic Lodge No. 630 in Sewickley, Pa., where he was a member for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Oneida Masonic Lodge No. 695, where he was a Past Master in 2013 and 2017, a member of the Kerbela Shriners in Knoxville, a member of Sunshine Chapter No. 279 Order of the Eastern Star in Robbins, a member of Sapphire Chapter No. 259 Order of the Eastern Star in Oneida, a member of Rugby Methodist Church in Elgin, a member of the Society of Broadcast Engineers, a member of ARRL and Big South Fork Amateur Radio Club, and was licensed in Pittsburgh as K3HGR and changed to W4IIC when he moved to Tennessee. He was an active amateur radio operator for 67 years.

Born Sept. 17, 1950, Ida was the daughter of the late Monroe Sexton and Julie Jeffers. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved taking care of others and spending time with her family and friends. The most important thing in her life was her boys; they were her joy.

Born April 18, 1960, Stanley was the son of Wendell and Gladys Lay of Scott County. He loved working on cars and was a skilled mechanic. He worked many years at Home Depot in the home and garden department. He had a passion for wrestling and loved watching it, talking about it, and practicing it on his son and nephews.

Born March 27, 1949, Kern was a loving husband, dedicated father, and devoted granddaddy. He loved to fish, boat, and tinker with computers. He retired from his lifelong career as a biomed technician. He was a member of Burnett’s Creek Baptist Church. He had a beautiful smile, chuckle, and broad sense of humor. He was loved by many and will be missed greatly.

Neva June Harness West, of Oneida, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at Big South Fork Medical Center, with her loving family by her side. She was 63.

LIFE
Born in the Bull Creek community on March 16, 1962, Neva was the daughter of Robbin and Betty Harness. She was a member of Buffalo Bridge Missionary Baptist Church. She was a proud grandmother. Her grandsons were her pride and joy. She also enjoyed making candy with her sisters, taking girls’ beach trips, shopping, growing flowers, canning and cooking, and she loved pestering her younger brother, Edmond, and treasured all the farm time they spent over the years, along with the pictures he sent during her final days.

Tammy Wright departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026. She was 66.

LIFE

Born May 6, 1959, Tammy was the daughter of Rev. C.J. “Josh” and Doris Laxton Thompson. She enjoyed taking care of others, spending time with her family, and watching ballgames. She was an avid Vol fan. At a younger age, she loved riding motorcycles and horses. She was a devoted member of Pine Grove Baptist Church for 48 years, where she was director of the youth choir. She loved playing piano and singing in church, and was a faithful servant for the Lord. She adored giving hugs and being mother and Mamaw to the community. She will be deeply missed but always remembered as a loving wife, Mamaw, sister, and special friend to everyone who knew her.

Michael Lee Babb, of Oneida, took his heavenly flight on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026. He was 57.

LIFE

Born in Oneida on April 4, 1968, Michael was the son of Leland and Ethel Babb. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Baptist Church. He was a man who always had a smile and an encouraging word for everyone he came in contact with. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed nothing more than being out in God’s country. He loved the calm and beauty of being outside and said that was when he had the best talks with the Lord. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan and loved music.

Born May 12, 1962, Kathy Jo was the daughter of Ronnie Jeffers and the late Donna Jeffers. She found joy in the things she loved most – her family, traveling, and music. She especially loved the band BTS, whose music brought her happiness and comfort. She enjoyed exploring new places and making memories along the way, but nothing meant more to her than time spent with her family. Whether cheering on her children and grandchildren or simply being together, Kathy Jo’s love and devotion to her family were at the heart of her life.

Born April 24, 1964 to the late Carlie and Vivian Zachary Lloyd, Doug was known for his lovable, one-of-a-kind personality and was considered a friend to everyone. Whether he was coaching youth sports or educating students at the Scott High School Alternative Center, Doug was a beloved mentor to countless children throughout the community. His most cherished roles were that of a loving father and the world’s greatest Poppy. Most importantly, he was a born-again, Bible-believing Christian who boldly professed his faith and loved the Lord Jesus Christ with his whole heart.

Sandra Gay Boring Thompson departed this life on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 80.

LIFE

Born Sept. 14, 1945 to Arse Mayford and Eula Edith Manis Boring, Sandra was a beloved Christian mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was marked by honor, selfless service, and a steadfast devotion to Christ that touched all who knew her. To her family, she was a constant source of strength, wisdom, love, and prayer. She was deeply cherished by her children, grandchildren, extended family, and church family, all of whom were blessed by her gentle spirit and faithful heart. She was proudly known as “Grammi” to her three grandchildren. She was “GG” to six precious little boys who brought her immense joy. They will miss her warm hugs, loving smile, playing with her and her collection of vintage toys, and her steady presence that made them feel deeply loved. A devoted member of White Rock Baptist Church, she found great joy in serving her church family. She especially loved decorating the church, pouring her creativity and care into events such as Vacation Bible School, Christmas, and other special occasions. Through these acts of service, she reflected her love for the Lord and her desire to make others feel welcomed and valued. She was known throughout her church and community as a woman of kindness, humility, and quiet strength. Her life stood as a good Christian example—one of faith in action, compassion for others, and unwavering trust in God’s promises. She loved being outdoors, nurturing her garden, jet skiing at the lake, embellishing her creative talents, and traveling with the many adventures of her children and grandchildren. Though she will be dearly missed by her family, church family, and community, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at peace.

Bill R. Dunlap passed away on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026. He was 76.

LIFE

Born Oct. 3, 1949, Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community servant whose life was defined by dedication, hard work, and love for family and friends. He dedicated time and service for 53-plus years to Scott County and the surrounding area as the owner/pharmacist of Plateau Drugs. Bill truly loved his profession and found great purpose in going to work each day and serving his community with care, integrity, and compassion. For decades, he was a trusted and familiar presence to those he served. Above all else, Bill cherished his family. In his free time, Bill enjoyed playing golf, a pastime that brought him relaxation and camaraderie. He also had a lifelong passion for anything Tennessee, proudly supporting the Volunteers as a longtime season ticket holder. His loyalty, enthusiasm, and pride for his team were well known to those who shared game days with him. Bill will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quiet generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. Those who knew him will always remember his steady presence and the familiar smell of his pipe, a lasting reminder of the man he was. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, both personally and professionally. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Stanley Joe Griffith Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026. He was 82.

LIFE

Born on April 29, 1943, Stanley was the son of the late Everett and Mary (Taylor) Griffith of the Brimstone community. Stanley was a simple, honest, straightforward, hardworking man and veteran. He loved to dig ginseng, dig under cliffs for arrowheads, and gardening. Stanley got right with his Lord before passing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother.

Dillard “Hacksaw” Massengale departed this life on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026. He was 78.

LIFE

Born Oct. 18, 1947, in the Smokey Junction Community, Dillard was the son of Elmer Massengale and Clemmie Lowe. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was combat-wounded. He received several medals with high honors, including the Purple Heart.

Jerome “Hertis” Phillips, of Oneida, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, at his home. He was 86.

LIFE

Born July 29, 1939, Hertis was the son of the late Leamon and Millie Keeton Phillips of Oneida. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and an ordained minister. He pastored New River Missionary Baptist Church, Tunnel Hill Baptist Church, and New Haven Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from Big John’s after 28 years as a supervisor, served as a county commissioner for 13 years, and was a driver for ETHRA for many years.

Born May 23, 1945, Roy was the son of Myrtle Reagan. He joined the United States Army at age 17 and served for more than three years before being honorably discharged. He was a craftsman and collector and enjoyed sharing these interests with his children, grandchildren, and close friends.

Sarah “Kathryn” McBee Keck, of Knoxville, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025. She was 76.

LIFE

Born Sept. 22, 1949, Kathryn was the daughter of William Lon McBee Jr. and Mabel Elizabeth Adkins McBee. She was a graduate of Central High School Class of ’67 and earned a BS from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She retired from AT&T and was a member of Fountain City Presbyterian Church. She loved music, especially singing with the church choir for many years. She was also an avid reader.

Willis Lee Sexton, of Huntsville, passed peacefully in his sleep at his home with his family on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025. He was 82.

LIFE

Born July 14, 1943, Willis was the son of Crawford and Ruth Newport Sexton. He was a member of Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church.

Oneida

March 24, 1937 – December 30, 2025

Bernard Clifton “Cliff” Terry Sr., of Oneida, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 88.

LIFE

Born in Oneida on March 24, 1937, Cliff was the son of Homer and Geneva Foster Terry. He was employed by Roark’s Amoco prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to his death he professed his faith in the Lord. If hard-working could be embodied by a person, it would be Cliff Terry. He wasn’t just a man; he was a father, a provider, and a leader — a true family man who made sure his family’s needs were met before his own. Whether someone needed their car fixed, firewood, or needed a few vegetables to eat, Cliff was always the person who loved to provide for others. Christ’s love was truly represented by him. The Bible says man should show compassion, meekness, forgiveness and a humble mind, which Cliff showcased every day. All were beyond blessed to know the man that he was.

Anna Marie Stone Dishman celebrated Christmas by joining her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025. She was 76.

LIFE

Born Dec. 31, 1948, Anna was the daughter of Otto and Gussie Worley Stone. She was a member of West Oneida United Baptist Church. Although she had no children of her own, she was known to many as “Granny Annie.” She leaves so many special loved ones and friends behind who will miss her dearly and deeply.

Jason Griffith, 47

September 5, 1978 – December 20, 2025

Jason Wade Griffith departed this life on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence, Ky. He was 47.

LIFE

Born Sept. 5, 1978, Jason was the son of Gaither and Vinadean Shannon Griffith. He was a graduate of Firelands High School in Firelands, Oh. And went on to further his education as an auto body repairman and painter at Lorain Joint Vocational School in Oberlin, Oh. He obtained many college course Bible credits from the Evangelical Training Association, and obtained teaching status to train other scholars. He made his career as an auto body paint specialist. He worked for Ed Mullinax Ford in Amherst, Oh., and Earl Tindol Ford in Gastonia, N.C. He was a good salesman, tire manager, and owned his own café in Oneida called Griff’s Café. In his early years he was devoted to ministry for the Lord at Broadway Assembly Church in Lorain, Oh., and Faith Worship Center in Baton Rouge, La. He was a children’s pastor and assistant pastor, and started Bayou Bible College to teach others about the word of God at Faith Worship Center. He went on to be an Elvis tribute artist, performing multiple shows in Memphis and beyond. He performed as Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and others. He loved to sing, play his guitar, and entertain. He recorded several music CDs and built up a fan base of over 4,000 members.

Charles Hammock, 89

Pine Hill
August 28, 1936 – December 28, 2025

Charles Lester Hammock, of the Pine Hill community, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, Dec. 28, 2025, at Oneida Nursing & Rehab Center. He was 89.

LIFE

Born Aug. 28, 1936, Charles was the son of Fred and Connie Stanley Hammock. He was a member and Sunday school teacher of Pine Creek United Baptist Church for many years. He and Betty were married March 31, 1962 and raised Chucky together, making a wonderful life for his family. They faithfully attended church and he committed himself to teaching all ages about Christ in Sunday school at Pine Creek. He charmed both children and adults with handmade wooden trucks and heavy equipment. He put in countless hours in his woodshop working on handmade toys while Betty would be beside him painting and creating joy for anyone who received one. He was a pleasant, quiet man but enjoyed talking about Maw and Paw, Mother, and Uncle Tilman, and how he grew up on the farm with his brothers and sister at Pine Hill. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a military policeman and earned the medal of sharpshooter. He often spoke about his time in the military and all he had learned and accomplished. He retired after many years from HBD Industries.

O.E. Hammock, 91

Oneida

March 23, 1934 – December 12, 2025

O.E. Hammock, of Oneida, passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025 in Franklin, Tenn. He was 91.

LIFE

Born in Zenith on March 23, 1934, O.E. was the son of Fred and Connie Stanley Hammock. He was a devoted husband to Dorma Hammock for 66 years and a loving father to two daughter, wonderful grandpa to six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He graduated from Oneida High School in 1956, served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958 in Germany, and married the love of his life in 1959. After the girls were born, he and Dorma moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., where he spent most of his adult years in the house painting industry, owning his own business. He probably painted most of the houses in Chattanooga. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and friends. He and Dorma moved back to Oneida upon retirement, and attended Pine Creek United Baptist Church, where he officially joined on June 28, 2020 and was baptized on July 19, 2020 at Huntsville City Park. He is already with loved ones who have passed before him. He was hard-working and dedicated. He always did what needed to be done, sometimes sacrificing his own dreams and working himself to the bone. He was known as a man of integrity, great talent and the master of one-liners, the originator of Dad jokes. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and canning the most delicious green beans and other veggies. He was always ready for a four-wheeler ride or a long hike and enjoyed looking out at his pond.

Sherry Reed, of the Coal Hill community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with kidney disease. She was 60.

LIFE

Born in Scott County April 14, 1965, Sherry was the daughter of Mack and Columbia Harness. She was a member of Armes Chapel Baptist Church in Wartburg, and was active in church. She loved singing and sang in a group with her mom, two aunts and cousin Tammy for many years. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was always close to the children in church. She loved her family, but most of all her nieces and nephews. She spent a lot of time with them while they were growing up. She also loved gardening and working in her yard.

Steve Thompson, 75

Steven D. Thompson departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025. He was 75.

LIFE

Born July 2, 1950, Steve was the son of C.J. and Doris Thompson. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Oneida. He especially loved his Sunday School Class. He was a former Assessor of Property of Scott County and later retired. Steve worked for West Coal Corp. for 25 years. In 1980, he had to have a bone marrow transplant and it was a success. The County supported his family through the entire ordeal. He got to raise his 2 sons, Jeremy and Josh, which was a blessing. Another transplant in 2025 for AML – leukemia was not a success, but he did what the Lord wanted him to do.

Shirley Byrd, 85

June 21, 1940 – December 7, 2025

Shirley A. Byrd departed this life peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 85.

LIFE

Born and raised in Tennessee, Shirley lived a life rooted in love, family and quiet strength. She was a devoted grandmother and took great pride in her growing family. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her nine great-grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness. She also cherished her many nieces and nephews, each holding a special place in her heart. Along with her husband, sisters and brothers-in-law, she was a longtime member of Southern Gospel Singers from Redkey, Ind. Together, they spent many years traveling throughout the Midwest and the South, sharing their music at churches and venues. Her beautiful voice is preserved on each of the group’s six LP albums recorded in the late 1960s and 1970s. In later years, she was a resident at a senior retirement community in south Texas, where she embraced a full and active life. She enjoyed the many activities, programs, entertainment events and shared meals that brought her companionship and joy during her time there.

Huntsville
July 14, 1939 – December 4, 2025

Wayne Edward DeBord, of Huntsville, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025. He was 86.

LIFE

Born July 14, 1939 in Lucasville, Oh., Wayne was the son of John and Elner DeBord. His earthly journey was richly woven with the presence of family. At just 16 years old, he answered a call to service and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. His willingness to step forward at such a young age spoke to his courage, steadfastness and sense of duty, qualities that continued to define him throughout his life. A man of steady integrity, he lived a life of service as both a businessman and an educator. His kindness was quiet but profound, and his servant’s heart reflected the character of Christ in every season. He walked humbly, gave generously, and believed deeply in touching many lives simply by living his faith. His family blossomed when he married Carol Sue Woodward DeBord, and together they built a home rooted in faith, love and devotion. After Sue’s passing, he was graced with a second season of companionship when he married Henrietta Rector Sexton in 2005, a marriage defined by their shared faith, mutual devotion, and steady, enduring care for one another.

Wanda Loretta Jeffers Miller, of Oneida, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. She was 71.

LIFE

Born in Oneida on Aug. 24, 1954, Loretta was the daughter of Odis and Walteen Jeffers. She spent much of her childhood in Indianapolis, Ind. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She lived a life defined by faith, kindness, and an unwavering love for the people around her. She shared a special bond with her Granny Bea, who taught her the importance of family, faith and serving the Lord — values that shaped every part of her life. She shared 48 beautiful years of marriage with her devoted husband, Bill. Together, they built a home filled with faith, laughter and love. She was the cherished mother of Christy, and William Odis “Billy” Miller and wife Lori. One of her greatest joys in life was being “Memaw” to her five treasured grandchildren, Kaylee and Madison Gibson, and Wyatt, Rook and Salem Miller, and to her great-granddaughter, Kacey Tomlinson. Her love for them was immeasurable and unconditional.

William Seth Lay, from Cincinnati, Oh., passed away on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025. He was 46.

LIFE

Born July 16, 1979 in Cincinnati, Seth was the son of William “Bill” Dester Lay and Dolores Lay. He was raised in Norwood, Oh. and earned his associates degree from the University of Cincinnati. He was full of life and enjoyed bringing people together. He truly loved his parents and his wife, Nicole. Intelligent and funny, he had a big presence that could light up a room. He had a heart of gold and often helped people come out of their shells. He loved football and was a true Bengals fan through and through. He loved history and visiting historical monuments when traveling. He married Nicole Wells on Oct. 17, 2025. During the dating years, the two bonded through their love of music and vinyl record shopping. Since then, and for those who know, they often spent their weekends comic book and funko pop shopping, as well as building his collection of action figurines from his youth. Though most would say “it’s the most wonderful time of year” during Christmas, for him it was Halloween. His Halloween display began to bring the neighborhood together.

Born Sept. 21, 1943 in Campbell County, Ella was the daughter of Hugh and Edna Moffette. She was a member of Black Creek Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. She loved attending church and singing in the choir. She loved traveling with her husband during their time in the military. She was a proud mother of her children, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her life was a blessing to those who knew her and her memory will be treasured forever.

Daniel Michael Kellum passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025 at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn. He was 32.

LIFE

Born Aug. 19, 1993, Daniel was the son of Daniel Nelson Kellum and Erma Elizabeth “Beth” League. He deeply loved his children and his family. He had a passion for music and expressed his creativity as a talented tattoo artist. He lived life to the fullest and his vibrant spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

• Cousin: Savannah Miller.

• Uncle: Robby Shaw.

Judith Ann Massey departed this life on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025. She was 81.

Born May 10, 1944, Judith was the daughter of Cecil Kearns and Joan Wi.

Howard Rollins, 90

Huntsville
May 29, 1935 – Nov. 14, 2025

Howard Edward Collins Sr., of Huntsville, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025. He was 90.

LIFE

Born May 29, 1935 in Baltimore, Mary., Howard served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957. His passion in life was getting on the water with his boat and catching Maryland blue crabs. He would bring them home, steam them, and dump them on the kitchen table for all to enjoy. He could sit for hours picking those crabs. His other passion was watching pro wrestling. He would mark every event on the calendar so he wouldn’t miss anything. Since moving to Tennessee, he enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the birds, and had a great interest in watching the vegetable garden grow. He will be missed by all, but never forgotten. May he rest in peace with his wife during his second journey.

• Daughter: Kim Rollins.

• Children: Cynthia Jolly, Howard Rollins Jr., Scott Rollins and Todd Rollins.

Linda Lou “Sis” Terry, of Huntsville, gained her angel wings in her Heavenly home on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025. She was 67.

LIFE

Born Nov. 16, 1957 in Scott County, Linda was the daughter of Willard and Louise Griffith Strunk. She was a member of Byrges Creek Baptist Church. She was known for her big heart of caregiving.

Frankie Duncan, 63

September 23, 1962 – November 4, 2025

Frankie Duncan departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025. He was 63.

LIFE

Born Sept. 23, 1962, Frankie was the son of Claude and Lucille Lawson Duncan. He was a dump truck driver and equipment operator, but his heart was in coal mining. He was saved at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church at a young age and is now rejoicing with his Lord Jesus Christ and other family members who went on before him.
