Weather
☀️ A really nice couple of days are on tap to start the weekend!
Almanac: Sunrise/Sunset: 6:18/8:55 • Records: 91° (2005), 43° (1998) • YTD Rainfall: 30.8” (Normal: 27.2”)
Details: We’re going to be a little warmer this weekend than once seemed likely, but with lots of sunshine and no threat of rain for the next couple of days. We’ll be in the upper 70s today and tomorrow, which still isn’t bad for this time of year. Tonight’s low will dip into the low 50s, and we’ll start our day on Saturday with some fog before the sun burns it off. Rain chances arrive tomorrow night and intensify on Sunday. It shouldn’t be a total rainout, but we’ll have to watch for the potential for some heavier rains if thunderstorms are able to develop. There’s less of a chance for rain on Monday next week.
Further Out: The next couple of weeks are starting to look quite a bit wetter than they once were. This is partially due to tropical moisture that will be streaming into the Gulf of Mexico. However, it shouldn’t be too bad for this time of year. In fact, the Climate Prediction Center is still projecting below-average rainfall for our area over the next two weeks. We’ll have to see if that holds or changes in the days ahead as the forecast becomes clearer. A parade of tropical disturbances are marching through the Atlantic, and while the jet stream should sweep them off to the east before they get far enough north to impact our area (after they dump heavy rains over the Gulf of Mexico and Florida), we’ll have to watch and see if it pans out this way. It also looks like we’re going to see hotter weather build in by the middle of the month.
The Latest
➔ A very quiet news week has unfolded in Scott County. In fact, there’s been no major news to speak of … which is seldom a bad thing.
➔ The NCAA has set start times for No. 1 Tennessee’s Super Regional series against Evansville at 3 p.m. today and 11 a.m. tomorrow. Game three, if necessary, will be played at 6 p.m. Sunday. The first two games will be televised on ESPN2. Game three, if it happens, will be televised on ESPNU. Part of the reason for the less-than-ideal start times is the low draw of Evansville, which upset No. 16 national seed East Carolina to get to the Super Regionals. They’re one of the lowest RPI teams to ever advance beyond the regionals.
